Westland Survival Stable Parts: A Significant Power in the Fight Against COVID-19

The Regulations Review Committee is currently reviewing seven orders made by me as the Minister for COVID-19 Response under the COVID-19 Public Health Response Act. These orders were issued to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that New Zealanders are protected from its impact.

As Minister, I have been given significant powers under this Act to compel individuals to take certain actions or refrain from taking others in relation to the COVID-19 response. This includes requiring people to wear masks in public, maintain social distancing, and comply with other health measures.

Before any orders can be confirmed, they must undergo a thorough review by the Regulations Review Committee. This committee examines whether the orders were made in accordance with the Act, if there is any unusual use of powers, and if all necessary processes have been followed.

Ultimately, it is up to Parliament to scrutinize these orders and confirm them through a motion in the House. This is an important check on power that ensures accountability and transparency in the government's response to the pandemic.
